The 2010 Gold Nugget Triathlon is Full
There will not be a waiting list this for this event.
Registration
- Registration opens online on 4/1/10 at 8pm. The race is limited to 1500 participants. Entry will close after 1500 registrants, or on 4/30/10, whichever comes first.
- Registration for the 2010 Gold Nugget will be exclusively online. Lane donations for bib numbers 51 through 125 will also be handled exclusively online at registration. Our website is secured by a Thawte security certificate, and there are no additional fees associated with registering online.
- The entry fee for the 2010 event will be $67 (Fee includes $10 USAT single-day 'license') for adults over 18 years old, and $42 for participants under 18 years old. Please note that USAT considers your age as of 12/31 of the year in which the event is held.
The bike course will be on Elmendorf Airforce Base this year. Due to difficulties gaining access to the base for large numbers of people, the Gold Nugget Triathlon will not be organizing or sponsoring any group pre-rides of the course. The course map is available on our site for you to use to familiarize yourself with the course if you have friends who can assist you with entering the base.
Assignment of Bib Numbers
The Gold Nugget Triathlon offers an option of the “Lane Donation Wave” on the entry form. The Lane Donation Wave is limited to 75 racers to swim side by side in a lane. This wave begins immediately after the Elite Wave. The price for a lane donation is $125.
Group Starting Times and Special Start Time Requests
As the size of the race has increased over the years, the special handling of arranging groups of people to have consecutive bib numbers has been discontinued. Shortly after registration closes, and the seeds and lane donations are sorted out, the bib number list will be posted on the Website. If you would like to start with a friend, it is always possible to start after your assigned bib number. You don’t have to notify us that you’re starting late. Please be aware that there will be a designated “close” time for the pool; so don’t plan to start too late! This time will be listed in the Race Instructions packet. If there is a group of you that would like to start consecutively, you may all start with the person who has the highest bib number (not the earliest number, but the highest number).
At the time you register, please consider any commitments or limitations you have on race day. If you have to be finished by a specific time on Sunday, there is the opportunity to do a lane donation.
Form a Team!!
Please note! – This has nothing to do with starting at the same time as your friends. It is a designation to be considered for a team award. Join four other friends from your workplace or school, combine your times, and compete as a team. (3 divisions—Business affiliation, School affiliation, and Open affiliation).
- All team members must complete all the legs of the triathlon.
- To be eligible for an award, the team must have a minimum of five triathletes and the top five times are combined together for a team score. (So, yes, your team may have less than five triathletes, it just won’t be eligible for an award.)
- Awards will be given to the top team in each category.

There will be access to the transition area the morning of the race from 7:00-8:00 a.m. However, bikes will not be allowed to enter or exit the transition area during this time.

Calculating Your Time
To help better manage the flow of the race and to promote the safety of all race participants we are asking all racers to calculate the time in which they think they will complete each section of the race. These calculations are intended to be estimates only.

USA Triathlon Membership
The Gold Nugget Triathlon is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. USAT provides the triathlon with insurance and race support. All participants are required to be members of USAT in order to participate. Annual and single-day memberships are available for participants 18 and over. If you are not an annual member, your race entry form will serve as your one-day membership application. The one-day membership fee of $10 is included in your race fee. If you want to purchase an annual USAT membership, sign up on line at www.usatriathlon.org then pay the USAT member amount for the Gold Nugget Triathlon when you register, then bring your receipt and/or your membership card to bib pickup. (Bring receipt if you haven’t received your card.) NEW USAT rule: Participants 17 and under are required to have an annual membership. The cost is $5. This fee will be included in your Gold Nugget Triathlon registration fee unless you are already a USAT member; in which case you should provide the membership number when you register and your Gold Nugget Triathlon fee will be adjusted accordingly. A parent/guardian will be asked to complete the annual application for new USAT members who are 17 and under at bib pick-up. The USAT Web site will also give you more information about USA Triathlon, including member benefits such as national age group rankings. The Gold Nugget Triathlon is a qualifier for the USAT National Age Group Championships.
Refund Policy
Regrettably the Gold Nugget Triathlon will NOT be issuing refunds for the 2010 event, for ANY reason. There will also be no waiting list this year, as we are capping the race at 1500 rather than 1400. We hope that those of you who recollect that we did have a waiting list and a refund policy last year will recognize that 2008’s policy was an exception to the norm of both our event and triathlons in general; the vast majority of sporting events do not issue refunds. |
