Subject: Update to Gold Nugget Triathlon Participants and Community about COVID-19

We know there are many of you who are waiting word of the status of this year’s Gold Nugget Triathlon (GNT). We are quickly working on the details with each changing day as events across the community and world do the same.

In the last week we have been working with our partners, facility owners, permitting agencies and sponsors to evaluate options for this year’s race. These folks support the GNT in countless ways and many of them are going through their own hardships while feeling the effects of COVID-19. Despite this, our community and partners remain strong and committed in supporting the largest all-women’s triathlon in the country.

We know how important this event is to each of you and are working hard to assure the GNT will happen this year. The Board of Directors, Race Directors and Race Committee believe our best course of action is to postpone this year’s event to late summer. We remain optimistic that Gold Nugget Triathlon will take place this year with the same excitement, camaraderie and togetherness it has for the past 37 years.

We know there are questions about the waitlist and status of current registrations with the decision to postpone the event (i.e. refunds, registration transfers, rollovers, and other possible options). We understand this and ask for you all to please remain patient as we work through all the steps necessary to select a new date and adjust our planning accordingly. We will communicate a detailed plan as soon as we can.

We know this group can rise to any challenge and hope despite these unusual circumstances you will continue your training in a way that is safe and follows local COVID-19 guidelines, support each other in the Spirit of GNT Facebook group, and support our community. This is our time to shine.

In a 2018 online article Why the Gold Nugget Triathlon Is Literally the Best, author Amy Bushatz notes that the GNT is “a race that feels like a hug”. We hope that thought brings you a smile today, as it has for us. While you are reading the article above check out Amy’s other great posts as well.

Thank you for being a part of the GNT community and we pledge to update you as soon as we are able.

Subject: Update to Gold Nugget Triathlon Participants and Community about COVID-19

We want to provide an update on how the Gold Nugget Triathlon is addressing the uncertainties and challenges of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The Gold Nugget Triathlon (GNT) is proud to be one of the oldest all-women’s triathlons in the US and we are excited to be celebrating the 38th year of the event.

The safety of our participants, volunteers and spectators has always been our top priority and we are committed to providing a safe experience for our racers. At this time, we are continuing extensive planning for the event with the goal to host the GNT as planned on May 17, 2020.

Like many other events and organizations, we are actively following the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19. We are closely monitoring information and recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health and governmental agencies, USA Triathlon, race medical support, and our venue partners.

Many people are asking if we are considering cancelling the GNT or would we simply elect to postpone the event if we could not hold it as planned on May 17, 2020. We are and continue to diligently work through a variety of scenarios for this year’s event and will communicate those as they become known.

In this dynamic situation we are committed to the health and safety of all of those involved with the event and doing what is best for our overall community. We pledge to keep our GNT community appraised of the plans for the 2020 event through direct email to all registered and waitlisted participants, volunteers, and partners. Updates will also be posted to the GNT website and Facebook group.

We are always amazed by the supportive and encouraging community that exists with the GNT. Hold the spirit of the GNT high and let’s all support each other just as we always do through these unique and unprecedented times.

Thank you for being a part of the GNT community.
